#abideinChrist Life Journal day 357 / John 15-18

John 15:1-6 ESV

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.  Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.  Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.  Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.  I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.  If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.

These are divisive words from the mouth of Jesus.  I do not fully understand what all of this means.  But there is clearly two sides to this and I know beyond doubt which side I want to be on.  Only by abiding in Jesus Christ can you bear fruit for Him.  He is the fine.  He provides the very fruit that you produce.  Apart from Jesus all that you produce is dead.  In Him is all things that are pure and lovely, fruit that is good.  Without abiding in Jesus you and I are not unlike a radio or a fan that has not been plugged in to the wall.  We have incredible potential for amazing usefullness, but as we are without a purpose or a use.  Like the  radio that can not be plugged in to a power source, we would fail to fulfull the great potential that has been given to us.  What an overwhelming waste.

Abide in Christ and you will bear much fruit.
