#savedbygrace Life Journal day 338 / Ephesians 1-4

Ephesians 2:8-10 ESV

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Oh the sweet grace of God in Christ Jesus.  There is no sweeter thing in all of the world.  The grace that was freely given ,came to us when there was absolutely nothing that could save us.  Only grace.  Without the grace of God there would be no hope at all.  We would be condemned by our own sin.  But grace was freely given to us at the greatest of cost.  It is through faith that we are saved.  But even the faith that we have has been given to us by God.  This is an amazing gift from a loving God.

Do you see that you have done nothing to deserve life?  All of your deserving ends with death.  Your good works still bring you to death except for God’s grace.  In understanding the magnitude of this truth we come to recognize the powerful benevolence of the Living God.  We are absolutely unworthy of the grace, the faith, the life that we have been given.  Yet God has lavished all of this upon us at overwhelming cost to Himself.  He gave up his son Jesus to die on our behalf.  And this while we had not an ounce of honor, of purity, of holiness.  No.  But Jesus died for us whose hearts were blacker than black and evil all the way through.  There is no boasting for those who grasp this.  We are sinners saved by grace.  We have been loved beyond what we can possibly understand even now.  We are incredibly undeserving of all that God gives to us.  But glory be to God for ever and ever for He has made us whole and provided for our salvation forever in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We were then prepared for good works only in Christ Jesus.  We are sealed by the Holy Spirit and empowered by the same to perform good works in Christ Jesus.  So Jesus is our all in all.  We are alive only in Christ.  We are free only in Christ.  We perform good works only in Christ.  In Christ is abundance of life.  Outside of Christ there is no life, no freedom, no good work.  All the glory belongs to Christ!
