2SA 1:17-18 ESV
And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and Jonathan his son, and he said it should be taught to the people of Judah; behold, it is written in the Book of Jashar. He said:
Again I marvel at the heart of this man David. He tears his clothes, weeps and mourns the death of his enemy that has pursued him to kill him for many years. He writes a lamentation that is recorded and kept for all of Judah to see. He teaches it to Judah. All of this for one who has made himself to be the enemy.
Jesus has taught us to love your enemy. David has showed us how that is done.
